We booked The Bothy for our wedding anniversary and what a treat. We were welcomed by the very friendly Lillian and given a good tour of the cottage with all of its facilities. She also gave us a quick look at the Shepherds which was very impressive.
We were given a welcome pack. A huge cake (which we are still eating days later), a nice bottle of wine, a pint of milk and some treats for the dogs. What a nice touch. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and clean. Two good sized bedrooms with fresh bedding, a bathroom w/ shower, a big living area with Freeview TV, DVD player, CD player and plenty of board games and a kitchen with everything you need.
The outside area is enclosed for dogs and has a seating and a fire burner (which we didn’t get a chance to use) I think it could do with a security light because it gets quite dark but if you take a torch then you should be ok. And the sound of “coughing” sheep (I’m assuming it was sheep and not cows) late at night did freak us out at first. There is a lots to see and do around the area.
We went to Alnwick, Craster, Newton by the Sea to go to The Ship Inn, Seahouses and Bamburgh beach. And of course we went into Beadnell. We ate at The Craster Arms twice and found the food to be filling and great value for money. They also let dogs into the pub area so we didn’t have to sit outside. There is also a small shop if you need any basic supplies.
All in all we had a great time and the dog loved it. She is going to need a few days to sleep it all off. We will be back at some point and might even try out The Shepherds with a few more people.
Thanks so much.
