What a fantastic weekend at Shepherds Cottage in Beadnell. Sam Smith was absolutely brilliant as a host. Her hospitality and small personal touch is second to none. This made our family gathering perfect. The area, view and overall cottage was outstanding. Can’t thank Sam enough from booking to meeting her the corresponding emails were brilliant and she makes u feel a member of the family. So many memories made here

Great venue for family or friends.
Date of Stay: 18 May 2016

The house had everything a family could wish for. We went with family and friends and all loved it . The games room was a big plus we didn’t go out at night once all was at the house. The bedrooms all had on suits and were excellent. We had a baby and a 4 year old and all we needed for them was at the house. We hadn’t been to Northumberland before but we loved it and will go back again. We were luck with the weather we didn’t have a bad day sun every day.Thank you to Samantha for a warm welcome and the lovely cake and other bits on arrival.

Spacious and comfortable house with lovely sea views
Date of Stay: 30 June 2016
We stayed here for a long weekend and didn’t want to leave! The house was spacious, giving plenty of space for 4 adults and 4 teens to chill out and the beds were comfortable. This was also a very good location – quiet with lovely views to the sea and only a short walk to Beadnell Bay and to the Craster Arms (very good food). It didn’t take long to get to Lindisfarne or Alnwick Castle, both excellent places to visit. Finally the welcome cake and wine was a lovely touch – thank you Sam.

We stayed at Benthall House recently for a family holiday to celebrate my husband’s 60th birthday – six adults, one toddler and a large dog. The house was ideal for our needs – plenty of space for us to spread out and only two minutes’ walk to the beach. The kitchen diner had everything we needed so we only ate out once the whole week. (The Craster Arms – vg). The beds were very comfortable and the showers had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. We’ve had many family holidays where either the beds, the showers or both were far from perfect so we all gave full marks for this! Plenty of seating both inside and out and safety gates on the stairs. Having a dog with us, the utility room was very useful for preparing his food and drying him off after he’d been in the sea. The washer was also made good use of, but we didn’t need the dryer as the weather was so good. The welcome pack was a lovely touch – wine, cake, biscuits and even dog treats. We didn’t get to use the barbecue as, although the weather was fair, it wasn’t quite warm enough but we took the folding chairs, windbreak and beach towels to the beach each day with a picnic. Seahouses is a ten minute drive (or half hour walk) away with a great greengrocers and a well-stocked Co-op. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and take-aways there too. We took Sam’s recommendation and booked a caterer for the birthday meal. I had some reservations as we’d never done anything like that before, but Adele and her daughter were fantastic. Very organised and friendly, they prepared wonderful food (with enough leftovers for a meal the following day) washed up and left us with coffee and home-made truffles. So much more relaxing than trying to get a toddler and dog to behave in a restaurant! We’ve visited this area before so we took the opportunity to revisit Lindisfarne, Alnmouth and Alnwick (excellent butcher and of course Barter Books). Mostly though we were content to sit in the garden or on the beach and relax. I would definitely recommend Benthall House to anyone visiting this area with a large party of people and we hope to be back ourselves before too long.

Booked a long weekend for family celebrations, ideal that we could stay Fri-Tues to give us a bit of extra time. The house was immaculate, and spacious and loved sitting on the balcony watching the world go by. Great views and easy access to the beach. It was close to local attractions-had a trip to the Farne Islands, Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and then Alnwick gardens on the way home. Plenty of amenities in the kitchen (3 teapots!) and in the house in general-games, books and blankets (for when sitting on the balcony). A 2nd fridge always useful for the alcohol supplies). Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Joiners Arms The whole process of booking was easy and Sam very helpful (especially when I had forgotten the key code) . Appreciated the welcome pack of cake, biscuits and of course wine! I would definitely recommend it to friends and hope to be back again

When we arrived at the house we were met by Sam”s mother who welcomed us in and showed us everything in the property as well as some welcoming wine and cake and treats for the dog. Although the weather was changeable this did not spoil the holiday,in fact the strong winds created some fantastic waves and the house was as warm as toast thanks to the central-heating. Four of our party had not been to Northumberland before and a visit to The Alnwick garden was made even more enjoyable with the vouchers at the house for discounted entry. Visits to Holy Island. Bamburgh Castle, Amble, Alnmouth, Seahouses and especially the walk from Craster to Dunstanborough Castle all made them and us want to return again. The Elan pizzeria in Seahouses is well worth a visit as well as the Salt Water café in Beadnell itself. This is how a holiday let should be unlike some we have stayed in before and is a credit to Samantha and her team

Stayed at the Bothy 3 nights from the 20th of June 2016 with my daughter, son in law and my friend who is partially disabled. On arrival we were over the moon with the location and the quality of this holiday property.Samantha and her family obviously have a keen eye for detail. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very comfortable indeed.A large home baked cake was placed in the fridge on our arrival with handmade biscuits and wine, what lovely touch. The cottage was extremely well equipped and i will certainly be booking this again.Thank you so much Home Away for dealing with my booking and once again a massive big thank you to Samantha and family. 10 out of 10

The Bothy is a perfect cottage in a good location for exploring. The cottage has everything you need to make your stay home from home even down to spare dog bowls and feeding mat. The cottage was spotless, well laid out and well maintained. The welcome gifts of wine, cake and biscuits are wonderful and even the dog is not forgetten with a box of biscuits. The views over the hills in one direction and the sea in the distance the other way make it a beautiful place to just sit outside and relax. There are sheep and cows in the adjoining field which the dog found fascinating! Beadnell beach is brilliant if you have a dog and only 2 mins away in the car. Nothing was to much trouble for the owners and defiantly somewhere we would recommend and stay again.

We booked The Bothy for our wedding anniversary and what a treat. We were welcomed by the very friendly Lillian and given a good tour of the cottage with all of its facilities. She also gave us a quick look at the Shepherds which was very impressive.

We were given a welcome pack. A huge cake (which we are still eating days later), a nice bottle of wine, a pint of milk and some treats for the dogs. What a nice touch. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and clean. Two good sized bedrooms with fresh bedding, a bathroom w/ shower, a big living area with Freeview TV, DVD player, CD player and plenty of board games and a kitchen with everything you need.

The outside area is enclosed for dogs and has a seating and a fire burner (which we didn’t get a chance to use) I think it could do with a security light because it gets quite dark but if you take a torch then you should be ok. And the sound of “coughing” sheep (I’m assuming it was sheep and not cows) late at night did freak us out at first. There is a lots to see and do around the area.

We went to Alnwick, Craster, Newton by the Sea to go to The Ship Inn, Seahouses and Bamburgh beach. And of course we went into Beadnell. We ate at The Craster Arms twice and found the food to be filling and great value for money. They also let dogs into the pub area so we didn’t have to sit outside. There is also a small shop if you need any basic supplies.

All in all we had a great time and the dog loved it. She is going to need a few days to sleep it all off. We will be back at some point and might even try out The Shepherds with a few more people.

Thanks so much.

Paul - The Bothy
We received a lovely warm welcome from the owners, including a delicious cake! The cottage was in a great location just outside beadnell. Very peaceful and relaxing. Beautifully set out cottage, perfect for relaxing after a day on the beach. The weather was unfortunately not what you’d hope for in June but the cottage was warm and cosy and the well appointed clothes washing and drying room meant we weren’t at all concerned when our boys somewhat over enthusiastic paddling resulted in soggy salty clothes! Would definitely recommend this holiday let and will keep in kind for any return trips to the area.

Double Bedromm
I booked the cottage for my dads 60th birtday, me, my partner, mum, dad and our 1 year old dog Noel all went. The cottage is like home from home and Sam and her family really ensured that we had the essentials on arrival including milk, doggie biscuits and even a homemade cake which was lovely. In the village itself we found the Craster Arms very nice and dog friendly and also enjoyed some fish and chips from the chip shop which were maybe the best we have had…word of warning though they only open limited hours (Friday+Saturday 5-8pm) so would advise you walk by before hand to check. We will be back hopefully later this year.

Fantastic place to stay!
We stayed in the Bothy between 16th and 20th May.The cottage is wonderful and has everything you need and is in the perfect place as a base to sample the numerous delights of Northumberland. We met Sam who is a great host and she showed us around the large cottage and the new lodge, both of which are absolutely amazing.I can almost certainly say we will return.

Lovely cottage, well equipped. Dog friendly the dog even got a welcome pack. Our welcome pack was the best I have received any where. Great location. Ideal base for touring Northumberland.

Shepherds Cottage was the perfect venue for a family get together. It is roomy, clean and comfortable and has a lovely farmhouse style kitchen which is extremely well equipped.

The garden is beautiful with some lovely quirky features like the indoor barbeque and the revolving summer house! The games room is a real bonus for everyone of all ages to enjoy and the location is brilliant – you can walk into Beadnell village and enjoy a meal in the pub or drive to any of the other lovely beaches and villages along the coast in a few minutes.

Sam and Lilian were very friendly and efficient and all the arrangements went very smoothly. Would definitely recommend it and hope to be back ourselves one day!

We have just arrived back from a lovely weekend away in this fantastic house. The house was clean and tidy. The beds put the world’s finest hotels to shame. The furniture and the décor were a talking point. It is really cosy and comfortable.

We have nothing negative to say.

My elderly 92 year old grandma who has travelled the world was wowed by it. The views from the lounge are stunning and its across the road from the sea and half a minute walk from a beautiful sandy beach.

The owner was very accommodating and welcoming. Every detail was cared for, and we could not recommend this house enough.

We will be back. Thank you

Immaculate property in a great location with stunning Seaviews! The house has everything you need with comfortable sitting areas and peaceful bedrooms. Lovely to be greated by the owners and given welcome gifts. The Craster Arms is a great pub and dogs very welcome too. The cafe opposite similar hospitality and delicious cakes! Both a enjoyable 10min stroll along the seafront. Couldn’t ask for more!!

Had a great stay at Samanthas cottage and both she (and her mum) made sure we had our requirements and were there to greet us in, which was beyond the call of duty!! A great, new log cabin in private grounds a stones throw away from Beadnell Bay and a perfect distance to all the other glorious places that Northumberland has to offer. We brought our Son, girlfriend and grandchild along and they thoroughly enjoyed their stay. You will not be disappointed with your accommodation, it was home from home for us and we got to do lots like a trip to the Farne Isles to see the magnificent Puffins and a look round Bamburgh Castle which our little grandson loved (especially the dungeons and suits of armour!) Thanks again to Sam and team for making our stay so comfortable. Oops forgot to mention the great wine bar/bistro in Beadnell that looks like a cafe but was a top class place for all you foodies!! Barry, Lynda, Josh, Shenae and little Elliot

Our experience with Sam at Mains Cottages has been brilliant from the word go… We were unfortunately unable to visit on the first dates we booked and Sam bent over backwards to help us rearrange at a time to suit us. On arrival we were greeted in person by Sam at the Shepherd’s Lodge. The setting/views are gorgeous and the moment we walked into the Lodge itself we were blown away by the high ceiling and the beautiful wooden structure – it has a lovely feel. The fresh cake, biscuits, dog treats and wine were such a lovely touch as well. The living area has a great open plan feel about it and is extremely spacious and well laid out. The bedrooms / bathrooms are all well proportioned and all have a great and slightly different view from the windows. The lodge is beautifully furnished throughout with every last thing considered – the attention to detail was quite amazing. Nothing missed or forgotten, including in the kitchen where holiday properties are so often lacking!! Everything was very clean indeed with fresh bath and beach towels and even a doggy towel provided for our pup! (as well as dog bowls and treats!) We felt so welcome and looked after and just loved our time there – it would be perfect for a couple, group of friends or a family! We enjoyed our stay so much that we have booked a stay for some relatives of ours later this year. Highly recommended and we will definitely be going back!! Activity highlights for us were BBQing in the garden, walking to Low Newton to the Ship Inn and eating at the Salt Water Café in Beandell.
